You cannot have a profitable business without customers. Do you know who they are?  Their ages? Where they live? How to reach them? Get to know who your customers are by answering as many of the questions below as you can.

  • Will you be selling to a market niche?
  • What are the demographics of your customer?
  • If your customers are consumers (as opposed to other businesses), identify as many of the following as you can.
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Education level
    • Income level
    • Buying habits
    • Occupation or industry
    • Marital status
    • Family status
    • Geographic location
    • Ethnic group
    • Psychographics
    • Personality
    • Attitudes
    • Values
    • Political affiliations or leanings
    • Religious affiliations or leanings
    • Hobbies or interests
  • If your customers are other businesses (as opposed to consumers), identify as many of the following as you can.
    • Industry size
    • Number of employees
    • Amount of annual sales
    • Geographic location
  • Are there enough people that fit your demographics?
  • Will your target customer benefit from your product/service and see a need for it?
  • Do you understand what drives your target to make decisions?
  • Can your target customer afford your product/service?
  • Can you easily reach your target customer?
